Pretty smart

I do not feel especially smart right now, so I present some rather smart thoughts from some clever, creative minds.
About the biggest mistake people doing digital marketing does: Confusing the real internet with an illusionary marketing internet full of Consumers who can’t wait to interact and converse with all the Brands in their lives. Or confusing people using mobile devices with Consumers using a Marketing Platform.
About sectors that is furthest ahead in digital marketing this moment: Video online in all it’s forms seems to be the universal and most effective form of marketing communication online. The campaigns which get shared the most, which get most earned media coverage and bring the marketing message through in the best way are mostly video based. The whole internet thing seems to be just a new kind of TV with more buttons.
About waving your magic wand and change one thing about digital marketing: More storytelling and less focusing on empty numbers (as in ‘facebook likes’). I would get rid off all the sweepstakes, give-aways and other malicious schemes to win the consumer’s attention and clicks.
More waving with the magic wand: I would like us to focus on the stories and not on the delivery method. I’d rather debate a project’s ‘interestingness’ than the minutiae of facebook’s API necessary to make it happen.
The people behind the quotes are: Tim Buesing, Bartek Golebiowski, and Tom Markham.
